Lose the Wrinkles and Look Younger

By Anne Fennell

Cosmetic treatments have advanced tremendously in the recent years, particularly when it comes to the treatment for facial wrinkles. No one wants to be though of as "old" but sadly in this world, having younger looking skin is very important and if there are visible wrinkles others will not find a person as attractive.

But what do wrinkle treatments involve? With so many offering the treatments, what is it you should be aware of before you opt for it? In this article, we will examine wrinkle treatments in more detail.

Exactly what is involved when getting wrinkle treatments?

Our skin is constantly exposed to a number of toxic substances such as automobile fumes, smoke and even the warming rays of the sun, all of which can damage the skin. Wrinkles are just another name for the not very appealing lines that appear on one's face, and in the case of numerous lines, the problem is just compounded.

Botulinum toxin is used to smooth out the fine lines in one's face, and these wrinkle treatments can make a big difference aesthetically. Other treatments can include chemical peels, laser treatments and even just plain old skin creams. The popularity of botox treatments is gaining ground quickly, despite the other options available. We see ads for products on the market constantly, but the truth is that anti-wrinkle creams can only do so much to make wrinkles less noticeable.

Which of the available treatments will have the most benefit?

This is a matter of debate right now, there is no definite answer. Depending on the patient and the type of wrinkles on their face, a treatment that will help them best will be determined and administered. The effectiveness of treatments using botox injections or other dermal fillers is well known, so more and more people appear to be choosing this method.

For how much time will a patient benefit from treatments?

The effects correlate to the particular treatment that is provided. Skin creams have short lived effects and need repeat application often, sometimes daily to show any effect whatsoever. Botox injections are a dermal filler option that will typically last for months on end.

Cost and cost efficiency

Treatment of facial wrinkles is not cheap. Advanced techniques such as dermal fillers, skin rejuvenation methods and botox injections can cost anywhere from $300 to $3000 (or even more) depending on the person that is performing the procedure. A less expensive option are skin creams, but they need to be used frequently, and products kept replenished. Cost effectiveness can only be calculated over a period of time as each patient may require treatments at different times. Botox and other dermal fillers are beginning to look like the most practical and cost effective treatment for facial wrinkles, over time. CO2 lasers are touted by certain physicians as being the treatments that are most cost effective.

Recovery time after treatment

Skin creams for wrinkles have no downtime whatsoever. However, amongst the more advanced treatments of facial wrinkles, it appears that microdermabrasion probably has the least downtime. This of course does not mean that it is the greatest treatment available, or that patients prefer the treatment process any more, as it is reported to be kind of unpleasant.

Summary

There are a lot of choices available for the treatment of facial wrinkles. Each of them has their own upsides and downsides. There are many factors to consider, including cost, the type of treatment and the comfort of the process itself, and the experience and professional nature of the treatment provider.
