Chemical Peels Bring Back your Beauty

By Elen Hanszen

As we age, all of us seem to long for our more youthful clear skin, and are upset about age spots, and the lines and wrinkles that inevitably form. When we start to notice these imperfections, for a lot of us, it begins to affect our self esteem and confidence. If you too are worried about your skin condition and are looking for a reliable way to restore your skin then a skin peel could be your solution.

A good way to rejuvenate skin is the use of a chemical skin peel, to enable the skin to look younger. Chemical peels will help you reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on your skin. The outermost part of your skin sometimes has an accumulation of dead skin cells, and a skin peel will remove these, reducing wrinkles and making it appear brighter.

If you have blemishes on your skin such as large freckles, age spots or liver spots, the use of a reliable and effective skin peel will help to reduce the appearance of these spots. Chemical peels will result in skin that is more smooth and bright, and will have a more youthful appearance. For those who have had minor or major issues with acne, a chemical peel; fewer pimples is the expected result, and less inflammation.

While something like a skin product can take weeks on end of constant usage to see results, a chemical peel is something that is over with in several sessions, or just a one time sitting. Many plastic surgery solutions are permanent and more invasive for the patient, and a peel is nowhere close to that level. A typical skin collagen enhancing cream that can be purchased will usually have only a slight effect, but a chemical peels can have a dramatic effect that is long lasting.

Calling it a "peel" says it all; the outermost layers of facial skin are peeled away, promoting new skin growth, and showing the fresher, newer looking skin on top. As newer skin grows to replace the top layers, lines and blemishes will become more difficult to see underneath the fresh skin.

A superficial chemical peel is not painful and therefore no pain relief is needed before, during or after the procedure. Typically, the patient will return for more superficial chemical peel treatments every second week or once a week, for a total of about 6 times for optimal results. The more superficial the peel, the less risk is attached to it. The side effects of a superficial peel often last only a few days. Although rare, hyperpigmentation has been known to be a side effect, and skin in some cases will appear to have a colour change. The capacity for skin to produce pigment is sometimes affected after a deeper skin peel.

To make the skin heal more speedily following the procedure, a patient should clean the skin often and moisturize, this will promote healing and stop infections or rashes. Sunscreen is also another recommendation that physicians will usually give a patient before having a skin peel.
