Is Intermittent Fasting Safe?

By Tom Taylor

For centuries people have had intense discussions on whether or not fasting is safe.

Experts have been debating the benefits of fasting for years.

Fasting can be done in a variety of ways but one method that has been gaining in popularity is intermittent fasting.

With this method you restrict your calorie intake on the days you are fasting and eat regularly on the days you are not. Intermittent fasting can be done by rotating days of eating with days of fasting or 5 days eating and 2 days of fasting.

If used on a regular basis, this process can effectively impact your weight loss in the following ways.

Calorie Reduction

With fasting you are essentially reducing your overall calorie intake by going without food for specified periods of time.

Cutting calories in this way will promote healthy weight loss.

No Need To Diet

Intermittent fasting is very different from a traditional diet plan because you can eat what you want the days you are not fasting.

On a fasting program you do not have to restrict your calories on non-fasting days. It is on the fasting days that you significantly reduce your calorie intake.

Fasting works well because you do not feel like you are on a rigid diet plan where you are constantly depriving yourself of the things you enjoy.

Better Health

Intermittent fasting has a number of other health benefits which include, lowering blood pressure and cholesterol, regulating blood sugar and reducing the risk of alzheimer's disease.

Fasting also improves mental awareness, increases energy levels and boosts metabolism.

To improve your results add an exercise program to your routine.

Working out 5 days a week using a combination of aerobics and strength training will improve your weight loss and tone your body.

Although not required, eating healthier foods on the days you are not fasting will only enhance your results.

Drinking at least eight glasses of water daily is important as well, because it hydrates the body and eliminates toxins and wastes.

These are only a few of the positive benefits of fasting for weight loss. Prior to starting any weight loss program, it is imperative that you visit your doctor to make sure the program is right for you.
