Have You Been Accidentally Hurting Your Diet?

By Sean Guerra

Everybody knows that the most beneficial foods we can take in are whole grains, lean meats and healthy fats. These are the foods that will give us the energy and protein we need. They help our bodies stay balanced without infusing lots of calories that we will need to work extra hard to burn off at the gym. Did you realize however that some of the diet foods you've been consuming may have been hindering your ability to lose weight? They might be even adding calories to your body! Here are some of the foods that may be undermining your diet efforts.

Sports Drinks are not helping you at all. You have most likely been told that your sports drink is the fastest way to replenish your body's electrolyte levels after a workout. Most doctors will explain, though, that if your workout isn't going to go over ninety minutes then you really should be fine just by drinking water. Sports drinks are packed with sugar and calories and a large amount of other things you don't need like artificial flavors and colors which defeat any attempts at eating only natural products. Try drinking some chocolate milk as an alternative. The sugar in chocolate will help your muscles start to fix themselves and the calcium in the milk will strengthen your bones.

You do not need protein shakes. Lots of people think that protein shakes may be used rather than meals and to curb cravings between meals. When you happen to be eating an normally healthy diet, however, a protein shake merely sends you into protein overdose. No matter what others think, protein is not stashed in the muscles, it is stored in your body as fat. This implies that should you have taken in a lot of protein during the day your body stores what it doesn't need in your fat, which won't help you lose weight or inches at all.

Pre-packaged deli meat is not nearly as healthy for you as you might believe that it is. It's typically believed that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread as well as lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat has a large amount of preservatives and definately will provide you with about a third of your recommended sodium ingestion for the day. This could be specifically tricky if you are prone to heart disease. Instead of choosing deli meat, select home cooked chicken or other poultry or fresh deli meat that you can get sliced at the deli counter. Yes you will spend more money for these choices but you will be healthier if you choose them.

There are a wide range of things that we think will help us lose weight like eating a whole wheat bagel each morning but the truth is that eating a bowl of oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a lot better for our health and waist lines. Ask your doctor what the best ways for you to eat healthfully are and then follow those directions. If you are very careful about what you eat and are also good to your system, losing weight probably won't be all that big an issue.
